Dr. Schmidt, I have been sleep walking since I was 5 and sleep eating for years consistently; you took the time to listen to me when another sleep clinic just wrote me off with sleep apnea. You reviewed my symptoms, studied my sleep patterns and prescribed medication to help fix my sleep issues. It has been 2 1/2 weeks and I'm already seeing an amazing transformation. I have already lost 10 pounds and am sleeping THROUGH THE NIGHT! I feel like I'm in control of my life again. Dr. Schmidt, you gave me my life back. I can never repay you for what this means to me. You are my hero. Thank you for taking the time to care about making me better.

I have never experienced a better group of nurses, front desk personnel, and doctors as I have at your location. I have had a bunch of medical procedures done for pre-evaluation requirements for a surgery, and not one doctor, or office staff has shown as much courtesy, willingness to help, quick responses, and just all around great staff as your office has shown. I appreciate it all, and just wish Dr. Roy did every type of medical procedure out there so I could just use him for everything:)

In life there are certain people you meet or events that happen that change your perspective on the world. For me, Dr. Helmut Schmidt was one of those individuals and his diagnosis of my narcolepsy was one of those events. I was only 10 years old when I first met him. Before that I had been to more doctors than I could count. Each one would indifferently determine that there was nothing wrong with me. I remember the anger and confusion I felt as they repeatedly told my mother that my abnormal sleeping patterns were due to laziness. When I was younger I would constantly fall asleep in class no matter how hard I tried to stay awake. Teachers were always embarrassing me by waking me up and sending me outside the room. In the fourth grade I was not allowed to go out for recess all year as punishment for falling asleep in class. Some teachers just assumed I was lazy, like the numerous physicians I had seen, and others assumed I was on drugs or blamed my parents for not being involved enough in my life. Finally being diagnosed with narcolepsy was like a domino effect for my family. My mother, grandfather and little sister all ended up being diagnosed with is as well. My mother always know it was hard for her to stay awake but until then she had no idea why. Looking back, I'm lucky that I got diagnosed at such a young age. It provided me with ample time to figure out how to live with my disorder. This was not an easy task by any means. I had to learn how to juggle narcolepsy, puberty, and the side effects of the medicine I was taking along with the other stress a kid has going on in his life. Dr. Schmidt and the Ohio Sleep Medicine Institute were instrumental in the development of my life. Being correctly diagnosed and treated helped me to learn how to live with a sleeping disorder. Everyone at the clinic has always been kind and courteous. Their knowledge and understanding of sleep disorders is exceptional. The Ohio Sleep Medicine Institute was one of the first sleep clinics in Columbus. Over the years they have helped my family and I adapt to our unfortunate ailment. I received my undergraduate degree in finance in 2004 and I'm working on my Masters of Accounting. I don't believe that these accomplishments would have been possible without the help and guidance of Dr. Schmidt and the Ohio Sleep Medicine Institute. I would truly like to thank them all. If they helped me, I'm sure they can help you too.

I have been a patient of Dr. Schmidt's for 25 years. My life is better today because of him and his clinic. Because of his knowledge and expertise, he determined that I have two different sleep disorders... problems that had gone undetected by other doctors and medical experts. His diagnoses and guidance sent me down a path to improved health for which I will be eternally grateful. I also appreciate his clinic's staff. They are friendly and caring yet consistently maintain a professional environment. I'm sure Dr. (Helmut) Schmidt will rest peacefully knowing his son, Dr (Markus) Schmidt, will continue the tradition of expertly diagnosing and caring for people for many years to come.

I have been working with since I was recommended to participate in a sleep study in February 2009. The sleep study uncovered that I had been misdiagnosed and treated by another physician for another condition - which was making my symptoms worse. After being treated by Dr. Marcus Schmidt for my underlying condition, my sleep has improved tremendously. I highly recommend Dr. Schmidt and his staff.

I would like to thank all of the staff at the Ohio Sleep Medicine Institute for the excellent care I have received there over the last few years. I came to you several years ago after being totally misdiagnosed by another doctor in Columbus. At your facility, I was correctly diagnosed and have been receiving treatment for mild sleep apnea, narcolepsy and restless legs syndrome. I have had 3 overnight sleep studies done, and each time, the overnight staff was very polite, conscientious and concerned with my comfort. The doctors have always taken great care to explain test results and insure that treatment plans were working for me. Office and nursing are always friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. I have recommended the Ohio Sleep medicine to several friends over the years!
Terry

Dear Dr. Schmidt,
Thank you so much for not just looking at my past three sleep studies, but for believing there was something the other doctors missed. I have suffered for years… and you have given me HOPE, I can and will get better!
Marsha
